Prior to opening his private practice in Huntington Beach, Dr. Williams was in associate practice in Inglewood with Drs. Chris Tasulis, and James R. Gregg, where he practiced for 2 years before servicing in the United States Air Force with the rank of Captain at the 840 Tactical Hospital TAC, Lockbourne AFB, Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Douglas R. Williams, has been in practice in Huntington Beach, since 1971, specializing in low vision rehabilitation. Dr. Williams is a graduate of the Southern California College of Optometry, Marshall B. Ketchum University, where he held the past rank of Associate Clinical Professor of Optometry; where he taught, part-time for 38 years. He is past Director of the Low Vision Rehabilitation Service.
He is a past Chairman of the Section on Low Vision of the American Academy of Optometry; and holds a Diplomate in Low Vision from the American Academy of Optometry. He is currently a member of the American Academy of Optometry where he holds a diplomate in low vision and is Past Chair of the Low VisionSection
as well as the Past Chair of the Low Vision Diplomate Program.
He is currently a member of the American Optometric Association where he is a charter member of the Low Vision Section. He has served on the Industrial Relations Committee to the Low Vision Section.
He is also a member of the California Optometric Association where he has served as past Co-Chair of the Ocular Disease and Low Vision Seminar and is a past member of the continuing education committee. He is a charter member of the California Optometric Low Vision Rehabilitation Section
He has lectured extensively to many professional and civic groups on various low vision topics and has written several articles relating to low vision care as well as authored five chapters in low vision texts.
